Speaking gently leads to humility
"Never behave in a way that will make your family very afraid of you." (Gittin 7A)
Rashi explains that when someone is scared, he may even lie. Once a person lies, many
other sins may follow. Instead, a person should speak quietly and with patience so that he
will not frighten the other person. A humble person tries to behave in a way which will
help people tell what they are really thinking. In this way, he will find out the truth.
